About Our Preschool

The mission of the Skidaway Community Preschool is to provide early childhood learning in a Christian environment.

  • Each child feels secure
  • Each child is provided with a foundation needed to build a healthy self-concept
  • Each child is taught to learn, grow and excel in the world around them

Serving families since 1986, our classes are conducted in a warm environment that fosters learning and creative expression. In our program your child will learn through play and exploration with an extensive variety of early childhood toys and materials. This gives the children the hands on experience they will need to expand their minds and develop their motor skills.

The children are involved in activities that help develop in emotional, intellectual, spiritual, physical and social growth. Classroom tasks are child-centered, hands on activities as well as teacher-led school readiness curriculum. The children have plenty of time to explore classroom centers at their own pace. The children also spend time in group situations at circle time, story time, singing, science experiments, and cooking.

Preschool classes are offered for two, three or five days per week to children ages two through four by September 1 of the school year. The preschool hours are from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Our Mother’s Morning Out program is designed for our walking one year old children.

Small class sizes and teacher/student ratio help to provide a loving and nurturing environment. Our teachers get to know our students and their families. Even the most reluctant children tend to feel at ease quickly.

You are welcome to come by and visit our preschool. For more information, please call our Director, Amie Nixon, at 598-0151 x 1106.

Our Curriculum

One, two, three, and four-year-old children participate in a sequential curriculum that helps to develop the whole child. Attention is given to physical, emotional, spiritual, educational and social growth. We provide the social setting to promote healthy self-esteem, a sense of responsibility to the group, sensitivity to the needs of others, and continued growth in social skill development. Exploration is encouraged and a sense of wonder is cultivated.

Skidaway Island Preschool has adopted the Pinnacle curriculum in each of our classrooms. This faith-based curriculum is based on the research of Piaget, Garner, and Erickson. It provides a theme-based framework for learning and covers all of the developmental domains (physical, social/emotional, language, cognitive, and moral). Monthly and weekly themes capture students’ interest and engage them as learners. Each day, your children will participate in both self-initiated and teacher-directed enrichment activities, ensuring concept absorption while accommodating children’s varied learning styles. Daily theme-related activities include art/music, reading, physical fitness, science/sensory exploration and character education. The Pinnacle Curriculum incorporates the development of fundamental skills including math and literacy readiness, following directions, visual memory, dramatic play, problem solving and self-help skills.

Our Pre-K program is enhanced with the use of Handwriting Without Tears materials for fine motor and literacy development. Skidaway Island Preschool is proud to employ a strong academic curriculum that fosters a life-long love of learning and ensures students are well prepared for elementary school.
